♪ he. >> donald trump not only won he redrew the political map. how did the president-elect do it and what does it mean for the country going forward? here to break this down is the elections analyst with real clear politics is david bill o'reilly. >> goopolitics is -- -- david byler. you look at it county by county. >> yeah. so this map, a lot of red, a lot of blue. tells the basic story of the election. essentially you have hillary clinton and the democrats winning in a lot of urban centers in places like new york or boston. steve: hillary is blue. is he red. >> yes, yes. you have her winning in urban centers and. so racially diverse areas like the southwest has a lot of latino voters. eivel.

steve: let's go into the south. >> in the south is where some of the most important trends are what you have seen in the south the last two decades is critical voters shifting from democrats towards republicans. you see that in coal country here. sort of southern west virginia, eastern kentucky. you see that in this part of oklahoma. essentially some of the things that we have been seeing is a long-term trend where rural and small town white voters have moved sharply to the right over the last 20 years. steve: okay. >> that's been really important for donald trump. that trend out in the west. but the flip side of that trend is that democrats do really well in cities. so, some of these states like noible. steve: like denver. >> i just helped you. >> yeah. exactly. around denver and this whole sea shape in colorado is one good example. las vegas. nevada is another good example where democrats have been able to win in big cities. that helped them out in the west. but republican strength in these rural areas has really helped them a lot.

when it comes to the northeast and the midwest. that's -- those are really the key areas for donald trump to win. steve: one more. >> sorry about that. my fault. in the northeast what you will see in pennsylvania here is hillary clinton wins in pittsburgh. she wins in philadelphia. but this big sort of rural red part in the middle goes for trump. that gives him the margin he needs to win the state that ultimately got him over the top to 270 electoral votes. steve: i think we have one more map, right? >> yes. this is one more important map. steve: what was that? >> this is the most important map the midwest. you see essentially these rural areas in wisconsin. all around minneapolis and minnesota. all through iowa in ohio and appalachian area over in the southwest region. awful these areas have a lot of working class white voters who previously might have liked the democrat candidates like bill clinton but have since moved right and that is a big part of why trump was able to win. i will. steve: indeed. the interesting thing about it

>> well, i have prepared it well the first line is thanking everybody, all of the presidents and including, by the way, president obama and michelle who have been absolutely nice. melania has spent time with michelle and it was great. and ivanka the other day spoke to her. the conversation was going to be a quick conversation. it lasted an hour. and they got along great. and so i am just thanking president obama. and i'm thanking his very lovely wife because they have been so gracious. we're going to have a tremendous time. from what i'm hearing the numbers are going to be astronomical. ainsley: there are congresswomen who have decided not to show up and be there. what was your reaction when congressman lewis started this. >> well what he said he has never done it before but he has. he has done it before because he did it with he president bush 43. and he did it on the same basis. he said he is not our president or something thereabouts.

responded to your twitter. you questioned whether or not he might be the leaker. he is saying no he is not the leaker. what's your response? >> look, i accept it but it came out of some place and it's fake news. it's all fake news. can i say something about george washington. can i say something about abraham lincoln. i can say something about you. just fake news. and they shouldn't have been a part of it they should not have been a part of it because it's made up, never existed, never happened. and the reason i say that so strongly because nothing is ever going to show up. there is never going to be a tape that shows up. there is never going to be anything that shows up. i would be very embarrassed if a tape showed up. i would be doublely embarrassed. there is no tape. there was no event. i was never in that room for that period of time. they have made stuff up and it started with the republican party whether they tried to beat me in the nomination and then it went on the democrats -- the democrats took over that work, supposedly.

than the last eight years. brian: all these ceos feel they have to listen to the president or are they just being deferential to the president-elect. >> i think they understand there is a p.r. opportunity here. he has a great platform. they know that if they are saying things that appeal to the american public, he can help them get that word out. the risk is they become deferential. they don't want to do that. they want to serve customers. he has a platform that the president hasn't give them for a very long time. do you differentiate for military contractors being called out over overcharging and private companies being told to bring their manufacturing back? >> i do. because, look, this is something that is within his sphere of influence. boeing, these are the kind of things that he has decision-making rights. he ought to be pressing these guys. when you are talking about private companies, they are not his. is he not a shareholder. he can certainly create a space for them to do business, to earn money, to make a live living to help employ people. he has to be careful because these aren't his businesses. boeing is more in his sphere

of influence. brian: you have seen when you talk about the dollar we need a weaker dollar that actually hurt of the market when he talks about certain companies, it hurts their stock. i think he probably realizes all this. what message are we getting? >> he has to thread carefully there because he doesn't want to be moving markets in that wait a minute his job is to help create an environment that works for everybody. where the dollar goes is going to depend on a lot of the different things. he shouldn't be pushing that. create space to let businesses all across the sector says we can make money and do business here. brian: cars get more expensive if wal-mart, going to hurt the lower class more than it will the middle or yo upper class. >> they can he affect those not well off. brian: i trump and economics. >> i'm happy to teach it. brian: thanks so much. coming up straight ahead, garth brooks made headlines -- i will look back here -- when he turned down the invitation to perform at donald trump's inauguration. now we know why.

before we went to the inaugural last time now is he going to be at the inaugural and you talked to him yesterday. ainsley: you all interviewed him like a reality show host and now he is going to be president. brian: political commentator he weighed in every monday or tuesday for about five years. he. ainsley: we sat down with him at trump tower for exclusive interview and here is what he had to say. ainsley: congressman lewis is saying that he didn't remember that he skipped that inauguration. >> he conveniently doesn't remember. howe do you forget if you go to an inauguration. can i tell you when i was at the inaugurations. you don't forget something like that. so he got caught. and it's pretty bad and it's making him look bad frankly transition and very important transition. and especially because things will be done beautifully but they will be done differently than they have been past 8 years. can i say over the last 16 years. they will be different. we have to have a smooth transition.

and president obama understands that very well and that's why he has been gracious. he understands that more grandstand. he just grandstanded john lewis. and then he got caught in a very bad lie. so let's see what happens. as far as other people not going, that's okay. because we need seats so badly. i hope they give me their tickets are they going to give me their tickets or giving them to other people. what happens to their tickets? ainsley: would you be willing to sit down with congressman lewis? >> sure, i would be. you know, it's just we're off to a bad start. there's no question about it. what he did was a very, very bad thing. not for me, for me it doesn't matter. he did a bad thing for the country. very, very decisive. we have a divided country. and it's not divided because of me. it's been divided. buff we have a very divided country. and what he did was very, very divisive. steve: we have a divided house, at least 60 democrats are now planning on doing

something else at noon on friday. brian: it's happening. you know, it turns out some people say well, i'm going to stand behind congressman lewis because i don't like to tweet back. congressman lewis decided he was illegitimate president. i think people are missing the point and i hope they get it you have no problem going against john mccain he is a war hero. it doesn't matter what you did. that doesn't diminish what you did in the 60's, congressman lewis. what you are doing now has nothing though do with what you did then. it doesn't make you immune for people to say it's inappropriate for you to stab an election that the president of the united states says was legitimate. chief of staff says legitimate. that the new york daily news who hates donald trump put a picture of him as a clown, they say you are even wrong to sit out. it hurts the country for you to stand down. ainsley: listen, i don't think middle america really cares because they call them the swamp. the washington swamp. that's why they voted for donald trump to get those folks out, to get the people that have been in washington forever, making the same decisions and using taxpayer money the wrong way, they

don't care if those congressman men and women don't come to the inauguration. they are excited about having him as their president. brian: most are in districts where they are not worried about their seat. the ones that are worried about their seats are going to show up because donald trump turned a lot of blue seats red. steve: no u.s. senators are going to miss it. it's just house members. and we're going to have some more. we asked folks yesterday if they had questions for donald trump and you actually went into the bonus round and asked him a bunch of them. ainsley: i did. thank you so much for sending in your questions. we picked three questions that were very important, good questions that you all sent in. and we sat down at the tail end of the interview he said okay time is up or his people said time is up. i said can we ask a few viewer questions. he said of course i will stay for that. so he answered your questions. steve: so for the past few months we have been hearing how bad wikileaks is. they gave that -- from the russians and trump has got contempt for the intel community.

yesterday barack obama in the 11th hour a gesture which is complete kick in the teeth of the intel community actually commuted the sentence of the most famous wikileaker of them all, chelsea manning. brian: when he was bradley manning he decided feeling a little depressed he released all these documents that were never meant for international eyes out to the general public. so value i can' valuable were tn laden requested them and they were found in bin laden's compound when he was killed. according to catherine herridge and i will paraphrase, after these became public, and our informants were exposed inside afghanistan, there was a massive killing spree on everyone or anyone who might have matched the description. and we had a heck of a time trying to get sources within the -- where the war was raging in both afghanistan and iraq after that. ainsley: she said they were looking for someone with dark hair. steve: kill everybody. ainsley: kill everyone with

dark hair. many people are saying that is chelsea meang-chelsea manning is responsible for. this mike barrick ex-cia operative who was on "fox & friends first" he said she is responsible for the death of americans by releasing other secrets. steve: there is no doubt. and there is the immanuel of bradley manning early on now chelsea manning who is sitting in the men's department at fort leavenworth in kansas. she is a traitor. and the "new york post" says it best. obama let as traitor go free, spring a leak. this is anger. you have democrats and i republicans. a lot of people are dispointsd. listen. >> i think he is dead wrong, absolutely dead wrong. this is treason espionage at the highest level. what private manning does, what chelsea did absolutely found guilty 35 year sentence should full out that sentence, should basically serve that sentence out. >> chelsea manning pleaded

guilty to serious crimes leaking highly classified information that put at risk the lives of our troops and our diplomats and our intelligence officers, allies who have helped us around the world it caused serious national security harm. and what president obama has done today is going to cause harm as well. >> i'm really surprised that the president took this action and i have concerns about what message we send about ultimately revealing sensitive national security documents. brian: secretary of defense ash --ash carter feels the same. i outraged at the julian assange and all of this and edward snowden can't come home but the person who started it all the private, by the way, who got access to material he or she should never have gotten access to releases everything, puts all of our sources in doubt and massive embarrassment to the state department. people died because of it and on his exit interview they say in a conference call yesterday manning gets his commutation because he accepted responsibility for the crimes and expressed remorse. really?

for how many months about wikileaks documents that elm bare arrested the democrats and, of course, hillary clinton since her staffers were questioning her judgment and the idea that she couldn't find her voice, had to focus group dozens and dozens to find out who she is and why she was running. i do find partisan politics at its worse. that this -- the way that we treated somebody or the way we look at leaking really depends on whose ox is being gored. a 35 year sentence sudden not have been taken lightly. not like he got a slap on the wrist. i don't think anybody should be equating it to general cartwright who i had one count of lying to the fbi really to protect national security. not to compromise it. steve: you know what? kellyanne later today barack obama is going to have his final press conference. if you were a member of the press and not a member of donald trump's inner circle, what's the question you would ask barack obama regarding chelsea manning? >> oh, i would actually ignore

chelsea manning. perhaps if i need to ask a question i would say exactly what i just did say which is why are you cherry picking what leaks are important and which leaks are not important depending on the leaker and depending on the content that was leaked. how can we look the other way. chelsea manning's documents -- the documents that chelsea manning had acquired were found on usama bin laden's computer as you will remember. that tells you how sloppy this was and tells how important it was and tells you what a great threat it was. i would ask him why on the altar of national security and intelligence we would be so cavalier at the moment. i would actually just ask the president, president obama yes, you're going out with these approval ratings but big deal, why have race relations according to all polls worsened to many people? why do many people feel like the country is more united but divided. why are you leaving unfib finished business including a divided country. when you took office 8 years

or the intelligence community supported president obama's decision to commute the sentence of chelsea manning who would have been eligible for parole in just a few years anunder the ordinary processes in military justice. it's very disappointing and very harmful to our national security going forward. ainsley: senator, what message does this send to other leakers to edward snowden and julian assange. are they trying to get back here to america so they can get pardoned? >> it sends a very bad message to those individuals anyone else thinking about violating our national security laws. they are in place for a reason. our country depends on the protection of classified information, the protection of identified at this of people who work with us. and for a president to adopt a cause celeb for no sound reason of national security or criminal justice encourages people who want to take that kind of action outside of the law. this is going to be very harmful forever our troops and diplomats and intelligence officers who are around the world trying to get people to work with us.

white house. take a look. >> we did ask viewers to send in questions and we picked out three. >> good. ainsley: this is karen. you claimed new insurance will cover everyone. my question is why house the house of representatives why do they get to have a separate insurance plan. isn't that part of the swamp elitism? >> she has been watching my speeches. i talk about it all the time. people in high levels of government have this fantastic plan but people in the country don't have the plan. and we're going to have a plan that's going to be great for people and it's going to be much less expensive and you will be able to actually have something to say about who your doctor is and your plan. so, and we're going to have, you know, we have to cover people that can't afford it. and that's what i'm talking about. and we'll probably have block grants of medicaid back into the states and we will do things because, you know, there are people that can't afford it nobody is going to be dying on the streets with a president trump. we want to take care of everybody. ainsley: a lot of people are just worried how you are going to pay for it if you insure everyone. >> you watch.

we will get private insurance companies to take care of a lot of people that can afford it that's going to take a tremendous burden off. they will have plans that are great plans. that's very important. ainsley: great one about the military. stefanie says most veterans from the infantry were brought back from the war in last 8 years with no help to transition. many are medicating themselves. ask them greatest desire it to fight again for this country couldn't consider a program to help them get clean, thereby allowing them to rejoin the infantry? >> i think we can. that's a big problem. medicating themselves is exactly what's happening. not only with the military by the way but the whole country. one of the reasons we have a strong border is the drugs are pouring across, heroin is pouring across the border like you wouldn't believe. we are going to have the border. trump was just playing games, is he just having fun. oh, we are having a wall. a wall is going to be bills. ainsley: are we paying for it. >> so when i said we are going to get reimbursed for the wall they said trump is not keeping his promise. wait a minute, we're going to build a wall.

mexico is going to reimburse us and headlines trump is not -- what's this all about? now, i could wait but in order to get the wall started, which we're going to do sooner than we can do the deal, we have to do it this way. so we're going to have a wall, mexico in some form, mexico is going to reimburse us for that wall. and everybody is going to be happy. we're going to stop the drugs from coming in. ainsley: one last question from a viewer. carolyn says will you consider creating a legal status to work for noncriminal undocumented citizens brought here as children? my son-in-law is one of these. he supports your wall. he has said many times that he would rather have been brought here legally or not at all. he doesn't want any more children subjected to this life of fear. >> i understand that. and we're working on a plan right now. and that plan over the next two to three months is going to come out. and it's a plan that's going to be very firm but it's going to be a lot of heart. and we're going to be looking into that situation. that's a very tough situation. but i think they're going to end up being very happy. we're going to have great

people coming into our country. people that love our country. and we're also going to have people come in to our country merit-based. you look at silicon valley. they can't get -- somebody graduates number one in their class from harvard and they get thrown out of the country. we're going to have great people and people of great talent coming in to our country. we're going to have also merit-based. and that's so important. we don't have that right now. and if you can think of this, some of the silicon valley companies want to build up in canada because in canada, they are able to get the people that they need. and they can't get them in this country because we don't allow them in this country. so we're going to take a lot of situations. and we're going to have a lot of heart. believe me. it's going to be a heart almost as big as yours. a very clear message that, you know, with this new incoming administration we were going to be holding donald trump accountable. and, you know, there are plenty of women who had different ideologies and political background who are coming together and, you know, the site itself talks all about unity and inclusiveness and diversity. so when we were actually added as a partner, ache pro-life feminist group, we're not used to getting included in a lot of circles, but it was incredibly hopeful that this march was doing exactly what it claimed by including people even who had different opinions. ainsley: you don't even support donald trump, right? >> i was not a donald trump supporter, no. ainsley: but you are pro-life. >> i'm incredibly pro-life. ainsley: because of that stand these and other women said you and other females in the organization are not allowed to march with us. >> came out in atlantic article for praising them for being inclusive and adding us within, i believe it was something like two hours there was a huge twitter storm of

he didn't remember that he skipped that inauguration. >> he conveniently doesn't remember. how do you forget if you go to an inauguration? i can tell you when i was at a inauguration, and you don't forget something like that. so he got caught, and it's pretty bad. and it's making him look bad, frankly. it's a very important time. this is a transition and a very important transition and especially because things will be done beautifully, but they'll be done differently than they have been over the past eight years. and i can say over the past 16 years, they'll be different. and we have to have a smooth transition. and president obama understands that very well, and that's why he's been so gracious. but ends that. and i think for him to have grandstanded, because i think he just grandstanded john lewis, and then he got caught in a very bad lie. so we'll see what happens. as far as other people not going, we'll see. we need seats so badly. i hope they give me their tickets. are they going to give me

their tickets or to other people? what happens with their tickets? ainsley: would you be willing to sit down with congressman lewis? >> sure. i would be. but we're off to a bad start, there's no question about it. what he did was a very, very bad thing. not for me. for me, it doesn't matter. he did a bad thing for the country. very divisive. and it's not divided because of me. it has been divided. but we have a very divided country. and what he did was very, very divisive. >> so the number of u.s. congressman so far, 60. all democrats not going to be in attendance. we don't know of any u.s. senators who will not be in attendance. however, -- we just heard from lucas tomlinson, our state department producer that apparently the secretary of state john kerry is not going to be in attendance. we don't know exactly what the circumstances are but john kerry will not be there for the swearing in halftime 45th president of the united states.

brian: pretty significant. i don't know -- for all we know, he has a conflict. but we also know he's unemployed. he was u.s. senator for years, became secretary of state. steve: he's got a pretty good bank account. ainsley: it could be a health issue. it could be anything. we don't know the reason. we won't jump to conclusions. brian: he gave some remarks yesterday just about warning donald trump not to say certain things. steve: listen, donald trump says a lot of stuff on twitter and in the last 20 minutes, he has tweeted three times. ainsley with you asked him a little bit about twitter. ainsley: he says -- well, listen to what he said. steve: okay. ainsley: what about twitter? are you going to continue to tweet? >> yeah. look, i don't like tweeting. i have other things i could be doing. but i get very dishonest media. very dishonest press, and it's my only way that i can counteract. for instance, when john lewis said he's never done it before where he skipped an inauguration. well, he has.

it turned out to be a lie, so i'm able to say that. now, if the press were honest, which it's not, i would absolutely not use twitter. i wouldn't have to. ainsley: it's so funny. you can watch -- if you watch networks and then watch his twitter account, you can see he responds to stories immediately. brian: which show he's watching. ainsley: yeah, if he doesn't agree with anything, he'll respond instantly. brian: i was talking to someone from the bush white house and say it's not going to be possible for donald trump to tweet at this pace. ainsley: he'll probably have someone does it for him. brian: he does it legitimately in his voice. he doesn't tell you this is wrong. he says why he thinks it's wrong. i'm not sure anyone can do it. ainsley: it's smart if he does it. brian: i don't know how smart it is when it comes to policy tweeting out to get ahead of communications people. steve: i think it's great. listen, donald trump got elected because he's donald trump. you know, after friday, he's not going to

. steve: right to a fox news alert. on one of his final days in office, president obama setting free one of america's controversial prisoners. we're talking about chelsea manning. ainsley: now set to be released three decades early. brian: christian fisher is live outside the white house with the fall out. kristen. >> well, this decision to cut chelsea manning's sentence by almost 30 years means president obama has now granted more commutations than any president in history. now, the white house says the rational for this release has everything to do with manning accepting responsibility and expressing remorse for her crimes and nothing to do with wikileaks or its founder who had been campaigning for manning's release. the transgender army officer was convicted of releasing more than 700 classified documents to wikileaks. now released in may. both republicans and democrats on capitol hill are calling the move outrageous.

intelligence we would be so cavalier at this moment. but party pardon politics at its worst. the way we treat somebody or the way we look at leaking really depends on whose ox is being gored. brian: the president just doesn't care. a high school senior in his last day says i'm going to college. it doesn't matter. ainsley: then why don't you go to college? why do you have to stick around and pardon everyone and then go to college and let somebody else clean up the mess? brian: this one even his own secretary of defense in the camp, senator and a lot of democrats can't block it. president obama just admitted to the prison catch and to many, it's a game changer. ainsley: and more of the exclusive interview with president-elect donald trump. ainsley: when i ask you about your speech. the inauguration speech. have you prepared your speech? have you practiced? what's your first line?

really nice to walk over. steve: what about for him? ainsley: well, that's true. he's going to have to go back and forth. but individuals his own plane and he is president. i asked one of the guys where is the ladies' room? he took me the long way and then i used it later and there was a shorter day. eric was sitting at his desk. he came out and talked with me. a bunch of people we've interviewed in the past. i said eric, has your wife gotten a dress yet? has laura gotten a dress? oh, i have no idea. it's crazy how women put so much focus on that and men don't care. here's the serious news you care about. here's donald trump. ainsley: president-elect trump, thank you so much for meeting with us today. >> thank you. ainsley: exciting week for you. what's the first thing you're going to do when you walk into the white house? >> well, i'm going to go to work. monday is really the day that

we start signing and working and making great deals for the country. ainsley: i know melania and your son are going to stay here until they finish school. will they be there? >> oh, yeah, my whole family is going to be in the white house. barren and melania and all of my children will be in the white house, which is sort of a tradition. they say the first night you have your family there but ivanka, don, tiffany, they'll all be in the white house. and it's very exciting. there's something special about that building. err time you walk in it, something so special about the white house. ainsley: not many people to say they are the president of the united states of america. >> very humbling, i will tell you. ainsley: i am sure. do you think about your parents? >> i do. my parents were great. i had great parents and loving parents. my father was a strong guy. actually, my mother was at least equally a strong but a lot of people didn't quite understand that. but she was strong but good. both good.

great hearts and great parents. ainsley: i want to ask you about your speech. your inauguration speech. have you prepared your speech? have you practiced? what's your first line? >> well, i have prepared it. the first line is thank you, everybody, all presidents. including president obama and michelle who has been really nice. ivanka spent time with her, it was supposed to be a quick conversation, and they spent an hour. so i'm just thanking president obama, and i'm thanking his very lovely wife because they have been so gracious. we're going to have a tremendous turnout. i think from what i'm hearing, the numbers are going to be astronomical. ainsley: there are congressmen and women who have decided not to show up and not be there. what was your reaction when congressman lewis started this? >> well, what he said is he's never done it before, but he has. you know, he has done it before because he did it with

president bush 43, and he did it on the same basis.he is not r president or something thereabouts. and that's a very bad misrepresentation. so let's see what happens. as far as other people not going, that's okay because we need seats so badly. i hope they give me their tickets. are they going to give us our tickets? or are they going to give them to other people? no, what happens with their tickets? i hope they give us their tickets. ainsley: what about these celebrities who are now pulling out? >> many of the celebrities who are saying they're not going. they were never invited. i don't want the celebrities. i want the people. and we have the biggest celebrities in the world there. ainsley: you. >> i won't say that. and president obama. and president obama. ainsley: how about these designers who don't want to dress your wife. did she even ask tom ford? >> never asked tom ford. doesn't like tom ford. doesn't like his designs. tom ford is an example. i will not dress the first lady.

and steve nguyen just called me and said he thought it was so terrible that tom ford said, he through his clothing out of his las vegas hotel. i'm not a fan of tom ford. never have been. ainsley: i heard smaller parade, fewer balls. why is that? >> well, they had 10, 12 balls. we have one ball i think it's 25,000 people and they're going to be bigger. but who wants to have, like, ten different balls? so we did fewer. everything sold out. you can't get a ticket. but, in fact, my biggest problem is you can't get tickets to any of this stuff. it's impossible. i was told some of the dress shops in washington, you can't get a dress anymore. it's, like -- it's just going to be an amazing weekend. it's going to be something special. and you will have crowds like they have rarely seen before. ainsley: what about twitter? are you going to continue to tweet? >> yeah. look, i don't like tweeting. i have other things i could be doing. but i get very dishonest media.

very dishonest press, and it's my only way that i can counteract. ainsley: cia john brennan responded to you on twitter. you questioned whether or not he was the leaker. >> well, i accept it. it came out of some place. and it's fake news. it's all fake news. i can say something about george w george washington. i can say something about abraham lincoln. i can say something about you. just fake news, and they shouldn't have been a part of it. they should not have been a part of it because it's made up, never existed, never happened. and the reason i say that so strongly because nothing's ever going to show up. there's never going to be a tape that shows up. there's never going to show up. now, i would be very embarrassed if a tape actually showed up saying something like that. i would be double embarrassed because if i am saying there is no tape, there is no event. i was never even in that room for that period of time. they made stuff up, and it started with the republican party when they tried to beat

me in the nomination, and then it went on the democrats took over that work supposedly. and by the intelligence giving it credence, a little bit of credence just by talking about it, it was very inappropriate. i have no idea who the leaker was, but it's fake news. ainsley: press briefing room. are you going to move it? >> so we want to move it. for whatever reason, you'll have to explain this to me and everybody. we get a lot of people showing up for press conferences, et cetera. including briefings. and the room is too small. so we said we're going to move it to a larger room in a nearby area but, you know, not the same area. and the press went crazy. so i said let's not move. but some people in the press will not be able to get in. we'll make sure you get a seat. but there's too many people for this small room. >> especially nowadays with bloggers and with radio. ainsley: we have so many people that want to go. so we'll have to just pick the people that get into the room. i'm sure other people will be

brian: well, the battle over obamacare continues. how will republicans go about repealing and replacing the affordable health care act quickly? donald trump talked about it with ainsley. >> we have to replace it quickly. that's what i'm talking about, and we'll have blockade back in the states because there are people who can't afford it and nobody is going to be dying on the streets with president trump. brian: our next guest has his own replacement plan in constant contact with his rival. republican rand paul who got another six years. is he right? is the president-elect right that there is something in place to cover everyone and no one will be dying in the streets? >> oh, absolutely. and people have to remember before obamacare, people weren't dying in the streets. we had an imperfect system that needed to be improved upon.

but we have a system even before obamacare where 85, 90% of people were covered. so what i would like to do is expand that, and i would think that the goal should be as president trump said that everybody should be insured. that is the goal. i want everybody to be insured of the most people to be insured at the least amount of cost. the problem with obamacare, it added to mandates, which deterred young, healthy people from buying insurance. i want to do the opposite. i want to lower the cost so more people will be able to buy insurance. brian: so to put it simply, we were giving a lot of money to the states that we didn't have to insure people that might not have been insured before but the policies weren't effective. so how do you panic, the average person who isn't knee-deep in politics with health care knowledge listening right now? >> basically what obamacare did was expand medicaid. but it also said, hey, guys, it will be for free. all of the states you can put all of the poor people on the rolls, but it won't cost you

anything because the federal government is going to pay for it. the rub is, though, the federal government has no money. the federal government borrows about a million dollars a minute and has a $20 trillion debt. so what i said is let's be honest about it. what can we do to make the economy strong enough that we only have a small percentage of people who can't get insurance? that's the first thing you need to do. and then if you have to provide to people with medicaid, let's be honest about the accounting. and if states want to have more expansive medicaid, they should probably raise taxes on their citizens to pay for it. brian: can you give me two ideas of what makes rand paul's plan workable? >> first thing you have to do is legal i see insurance. get rid of all the obamacare mandates and let people buy whatever kind of insurance they want and that will drive the prices down. second thing, help people save through health savings accounts. give them tax credits, tax ducks to save in these savings accounts. and then the third thing is

individuals need to join together in groups so that they can get the leverage and reduce in cost and also get insurance that won't drop them. brian: senator, you have to get the house to listen to you, the president-elect to listen to you, and about eight democrats to go with you because you need 60 votes to fully replace; right? >> i've got my work ahead of me. i already have the ear of the president. now what we have to do is get the ear of the leadership and the senate and the house. i'm working on that, so i've got a lot of work between now and the next couple weeks. brian: you know, it's amazing. you and ted cruz seem to have the best relationship with president-elect trump, and you guys were the most bitter rivals to start with. you put all of that behind you for the good of the country. thanks so much for joining us, senator. >> thank you. brian: all right. coming up straight ahead. a fox news alert. president hw bush 41 hospitalized. i've been in touch with his team, and he's next up with his condition. >> our best to him. brian, good morning to you.

but given his history, you feel that's what's going on. >> well, also, steve, because you're immobile. make sure they get in the hospital, have no blood clots, but by now, all of that would have been ruled out. so now that he's saying he's responding, he's better, responding to the breathing treatments, i know that's a very good sign. ainsley: well, we knew he wasn't going to go to the inauguration for health reasons. but 43 and his wife are going to be there. i wonder if it's going to change things for them. i wonder how good he's doing. >> i heard he's doing well and 43 is still if we could to attend the inauguration. so nothing has changed. my prediction would be he would be out of the hospital. but, look, when you're a former president of the united states and as well loved as george hw bush, you take every precaution. he's there as a precaution. not because he's getting worse. have fun at the inauguration.
